Default 4.10 gears

I know this subject has been beat up, but how much of a difference will it make if I put in 4.10 gears in place of my 3.55's I assume I have with my automatic? My brother says it's not much of a difference and that my car will rev too high. Does it really give you a seat of the pants difference? I really am thinking about doing it. Especially since they are only 200 bucks.

your butt-o-meter will read the same as it would with a 50+hp increase. it is a dramatic change on this car. 4.10s will be amazing in an auto, but yes, it will rev 500-700 rpms higher on average (not really too much considering the acceleration gains)

First off you have a 3.31 gear set in the stock automatic Mustang.
Second the 4.10 gears would make a world of difference. Best acceleration mod for the dollar.
Third it will only rev a few hundred RPM higher at 75 MPH.
If you are going to supercharge I would go with a 3.73 though. That is what I am running and works well with S/C and auto.
You may be able to buy the gears for 200 but you will have to pay also for labor to install them, shim kit, bearings possibly and of course good synthetic gear lube.

Thanx for your input guys. So, I just buy them and ask for a reputable shop to install them?

How long is the install for new gears? I really don't want to do this myself considering if its done wrong you could get gear whine. Espeically if you use cheap gears or a cheap install kit.

Watch for a deal on Ford Racing gears(only!) on ebay. Got the 4:10 kit new for $175 to my door. See you already have the predator tuner so you won't need to buy one of those as I hear the car will go into a limp mode if you change the gears without retuning it. Most shops figure about 4-6 hrs for the install but will give the estimates at 6 hrs around $70/hr. Look around, I found a guy just starting his own shop that is doing mine for $250, and he did alot of gear swaps on jeeps at a dealership so i trust him. Will find out next week when they go in just how great they are!

gee, I didn't realize that you needed a tune if you did 4:10's (I would be doing on a 5-speed)
