Future 4.6L V8 owner questions
Odd title...
Anyway, a good friend of mine is trying to plan out what he wants to do for his mustang he has yet to buy. So far he has
1. Supercharger
Nice list. He's expecting 400 rwhp from it. I'm fairly sure that's not going to happen on stock internals.
My question is this:
1. What can the stock internals handle on the 4.6L?
2. Same tolorances as the V-6?
3. What would need to be upgaded to hit that number, what hp do things begin to break on stock motors?
4. For you boosted guys, what numbers are you running and at what psi?
5. Do the 05-06 come with a limited slip differential in the rear?
I'm a J-body guy, not a Mustang guy. Please forgive my newbness. Thanks to all who reply.

May the force be with him for buying a mustang and welcome to the forums. 400 RWHP is not only attainable but very common on the stock motor and reliable with forced induction with a good tune. As long as you have a good tuner to help with your build, you should have no problems making your goal on the stock motor.

RE: Future 4.6L V8 owner questions
I concour with CK. I'm at 408rwhp at 4psi on the stock engine.........no problems whatsoever. If you ask around long enough you'll find plenty of 05/06 owners pushing more than 400rwhp on stock internals. Just about any supercharger kit for these cars with the right fuel support can get you 100+hp. Just as long as the tune is solid, the 3V 4.6 can handle it. If you're looking to go up to or past 500rwhp....then I'd seriously consider upgrading the bottom end. But even then, some guys like CK have been well past that for quite a while on the stock motor with zero problems.
Just tell your boy to make sure he gets a really good tune for whatever setup he goes with and it'll all be gravy.[8D]

RE: Future 4.6L V8 owner questions
Hey stang guys (and girls) I am too in somewhat of the same boat right now I am driving a mazda 3 (i love it) but when i get out of college I am definately going to buy a mustang (not sure if im going to wait till the next line or the current) I am wondering the same thing but more so of the transmission. What upgrades would I need for the tranny (manual) if I were to add the Whipple s/c (which I've been keeping my eye on). Also if for some reason, if something happens to me and god forbid I couldn't drive stick anymore and have to settle for an automatic what tranny upgrades would be needed for that. I am def. a noob to this forum I've been on my mazda for a while but im trying to get some homework before I make the big plunge. Thanks for all of your help.

The drivetrain should have no issues at 400 hp. JDM Engineering is running 515 on an Auto trans Saleen and 480+ on a MT. Like anything else though, with the proper abuse they can be run into the ground.
