Spinning wheels (Best Tires for Stock Wheel)
Wow, I have a big problem,
I have a 2005 Mustang GT with an Automatic Trans, JLT CAI, SCT (EVO Tune) and 4.10:1 Gears.
I can't stop smoking the treads, I can't power break over 2100 RPM the tires start spinning,
Forget about drag racing, Smoke the tires through 1st into second, get a little sidways in second and bark third.
I don't have the cash right now to buy new Rims, so what tires will fit on the 17X8 inch stock rim that will get a little traction.
How wide can I go?
Thanks in advance..

You can go with a street radial. Sleeper05 has street radials on his stock rims, you may want to ask him. Nitto makes the street radials and a 275/40/17 would fit you stock wheel but would be pushing it a little. It will definitely help your traction though. You will grip the ground significantly better than stock.

A far as a good tire other than a D/R, I just put a set of four 245/45/18 BFG KDW2's on mine and they have great traction compared to the Toyo Proxes I took off. The KDW2's have an AA traction rating.

Yeah the wider the tire you go the better traction you will get. More rubber to the ground. I kind of like the stock pirelli's because they are a really good all weather tire, and I'm not wealthy enough to be able to afford summer and winter sets. I'd say go ahead and max out what you can do on the 8" rim, and I believe that would be a 255 width tire, which is like 10" wide so that's a bunch of rubber. The stock tires has like 9" wide.

what is the widest tire I can get on the 18x9? I know the stock rim is 17x8 and I can't go much wider than 255/50 R17 on it.
Edit..
I am looking on the Tire Rack web site, they list the following.

Also I have a question about tires and the sizes and the chart below.

OK is the first number the rubber meets the road width?
255 = 10.03 inches wide
265 = 10.43 inches wide
275 = 10.82 inches wide
285 = 11.22 inches wide
295 = 11.61 inches wide
305 = 12.00 inches wide
315 = 12.40 inches wide
325 = 12.79 inches wide
335 = 13.18 inches wide
345 = 13.58 inches wide
the second number is the ratio height to width? how to you calculate then the 40 size to a 30 size taller or shorter arrg this part I am confused on,
the Aspect Ratio is?
25 shortest Sidewall (Low Profile)
30
35
40
45
50
55
60
65
70
75
80 Tallest Sidewall
The Diameter is a no brainer...
and the "R" "XR" Bla Bla Bla again no brainer.
