My bud says get a "chip". Help Please.
Ok ... I was talking about adding some HP to my car by headers or CAI.
Like I said im new at this but ive been reading a little and learning some.
I go to my buds work and he says "Just get a chip put in, its the cheapest and easiest way to up your hp".
Im confused.. Ive heard of superchargers and turbochargers, but what is a chip?

I would bet the farm that he is talking about Euro sports cars. 'Chipping' porsches, BMW's, Mercedes, etc, etc, is very common terminolgy. Many of these cars take a 'performance chip' that is basically a computer reflash by means of a performance 'chip'
We accomplish the same thing but we call it a tuner or 'tune'.

Two popular applications for our cars is the Diablosport Predator and SCT Xcalibrator. Personally I found a higher performance output from the diablosport and their website supports downloading new tunes and updates.

I dont get how a tuner would make the car faster without adding any parts to your car ?
The guy that said this was like put a chip in your car.....
IM confused now.. about the price on adding HP too... I thought turbochargers superchargers were in exess of 2-3 grand mim.
He was talking like my headers were gonna be alot when I was talking about the price of getting all of that done. Maybe he meant bang for the buck??

By changing the tune you are advancing/retarding the spark timing and/or changing the air/fuel mixture. By doing this you can gain some hp without adding any parts to your car. It will be much more effective if you add a CAI and tune together though.

oh and I read on the Diablosport page on the predator... the FAQ says you MUST use
premium gasoline.... it didnt say with which tune it just said you had to use premium..
