'05 ORIGINAL PAINT PROBLEM
Has anyone had problems with the original paint? I have a black 05 stang and I know that black is kind of hard to maintain, but from the day I bought the car I notice that the fenders (inside) are not painted completly. Also any minor scratch, you can see the primer. I was thinking that ford didn't use a good paint or maybe they only use 1 or 2 coats of paint in it. I was already thinking about painting the car and using a poliurathane clear coat. I hear poliurathane clear coat is the best, it won't scratch as easy and it protects more. If any one is having problems with this, please let me know.

RE: '05 ORIGINAL PAINT PROBLEM
I had some paint issues, chips/clearcoat sratches, big spolier chip/scratch to the primer/metal.
I took it back 2 weeks after I bought it and my dealership fixed my issues no questions asked under warranty.
Find a better dealership,
Josh

Yeah, the black scratches really really easy. I havent heard of paint being under warranty unless its like inherently defective. I dont see how the dealership would cover scratches and chips etc under warranty. That all depends on how you treat and maintain your specific car. But anyway, the black definitely shows alot more, you just have to wax it with a really nice wax and keep it clean. gonzopr1, wax your car when you get a chance with some good quality wax. (as long as it wasnt built in the last two months, check on your door to see when your car was built)

paint FLAWS are covered, damage not. Look into Glassurit clear if you go that route. It is what most of the german and italian cars come with. I had my stang shot with it after the stripes were painted on. Never ever need to wax, very tough (I have no stone chips at all after 1500 miles since paint, original was eat up), very brilliant shine (looks wet all the time), holds up for many years. Look at old mercedes and notice how well the paint looks after 10-12 years. And everone is familliar with the ferrari shine. They use Glassurit base and clear, it's eye popping if you get to see one up close. Almost all clears have a yellowish cast to them, this stuff looks like water. Downside is it is not cheap.

RE: '05 ORIGINAL PAINT PROBLEM
Yes, I believe Ford cheaped out on the paint work of these new mustangs. I've noticed that it seems to take very little impact for something to go straight to the metal........and I've not had that problem with any other vehicle I've ever owned........including my 98 mustang. It looks to me like they didn't give the cars enough coats of cleargel to harden the finish. This is why, whether I do stripes or not, I'm going to have my entire car recleared once my spoiler and hood are installed.
And it isn't only the dark paint mustangs that have this problem........we're just the ones that it shows up best on.

RE: '05 ORIGINAL PAINT PROBLEM
Glassurit clear? I realy never hear about it. I will ask at the shop for it. Do you know how much it will cost? I was thinking to paint some stripes anyway, so I will probably paint the entire car. I don't know if anyone see the show overhaulin, when they did the 05 mustang and they painted those stripe on the hood down to the fenders? I think they look good. I am thinking about painting those same stripes.
