Default For those of you with window scoops.. I "adhere" to you..

I am considering buying scoops for my 06 GT.
I went online and saw the directions for installing them... I had a serious question about them as I read... and here is the instructions.

Taping Side Scoops:
1. Sand area to be taped on the part with 80 – 120 grit sand paper (tape is
NOT applied to the rear edge of the Scoop).
2. Clean with supplied alcohol swabs. Allow time to dry. Caution: Proper
ventilation should be used when handling all solvents. Inhalation
and direct contact with skin or eyes should be avoided
3. Apply supplied Adhesion Promoter. Allow time to dry. Note: Adhesion
Promoter may discolor paint, only apply where needed. The drying
time is generally 30 – 45 seconds but may depend on conditions.
Tape should be applied within 1 hour of applying Promoter, in a dust
free environment.
4. Apply 3M Acrylic Bonding Tape. Lay parts face down on a soft surface, to
avoid scratches. Cut tape with a razor blade where a continuous piece is
not possible. Note: It is recommended that the temperature of the
part be 60 - 110° F at the time of application.
5. Apply even pressure around part to set tape. As a general rule, a
minimum of 15 PSI should be used. Note: Immediately after the tape is
applied about 60% of the bond strength is achieved. After 24 hours
approximately 75% - 80% is achieved. After 72 hours 95% + bond
strength is achieved.

Installing Side Scoops:
We recommend purchasing the CDC Quarter Window Closeouts
(part #112040) for that finished interior appearance of your
vehicle. The Quarter Window Closeouts are constructed of the
same material as your headliner (offered in Charcoal only).
1. Apply provided decals to Scoops, clean area with isopropyl alcohol to
remove any wax or polishing compound first. Decals are specific for driver
and passenger side; make sure to have correct sides.
2. Thoroughly clean area around window where bonding tape will contact
vehicle and wipe with isopropyl alcohol to remove wax. It is imperative
that any wax be removed from the vehicle at the tape contact area for
proper adhesion of Side Scoop.

3. Place Scoop on car to dimensions shown in figure and temporarily attach to
car with masking tape.
4. Once proper location has been achieved, mark the corners of the Scoop
with masking tape.
5. Remove Scoop from car and peel all red backing from the bonding tape.
Install Scoop to vehicle, using masking tape as a guide.
6. Press Scoop edges firmly to car to set bonding tape.
7. Repeat process for other side of vehicle.

After reading this I noticed in part one especially where it said to SAND
the area to be taped.....then I noticed the part about the adhesion promoter...

Am I wrong or are they asking me to SAND the vehicle on the outside of my windows?????? and put this promoter on where the the paint meets the window?? This seems like a recipe for messing up a paint job..
Do all scroops require you to do this and risk your paint job on your car?

Im just really curious about this and worried.
I wanted window scoops but I dont want them if they might take the paint off my car.
btw here is the link to the scoops online that I was looking at and the instructions link is on that page too. http://www.classicdesignconcepts.com...splay/662.html

Thanks in advance

LOL They are telling you to sand the side scoop where you're going to put the tape. I had to re-read that too...

I got the CDC ones and all i did was use a razor blade before putting the adhesion promoter on its a real simple deal and have not had a problem yet been on there a month now. Looks great I love them.

I now have the Cervini window scoops but hands down the roush are the easiest install. They have 3 brackets that are attached to the car with no prep via double sided tape and then the louvers attach to the brackets via allen screws. The absolute easiest install and they are oversized so placement is a snap. Takes all of about 15 minutes to install.
