Default radiator splash with s/c '06 ??!

I've had problems with radiator splashing on my procharged '06. i see coolant splashed all under my hood, but only after I really get on it. water temperature guage always reads normal, so it doesn't appear to be boling over.

My guy at the shop thinks it's because the head bolts can't handle the high boost I am running (~12.5 psi). So the boost is lifting the heads and pressurizing the coolant system--thus causing my radiator to burp coolant all over the place from under the cap.

I never heard of this happening with the 05s. Did Ford make a change in the head gasket or compression ratio for 06 that might make it more difficult to run higher boost? Have any of you heard of this happening before?

I highly doubt your 'guy at the shop'. More likely, check your overflow box that came with your prochrger kit. Chances are a slightly damaged hose, loose connection, loose cap, or small crack in the box. I had the same thing with my vortech and had a small hairline crack in the overflow box. Vortech replaced it for free instantly and so will procharger.

Yeah I am kinda skeptical too.

In fact the radiator cap was loose and not sealing well at all. I thought that was the cause. But then what the guy said who did my install (pressurizing coolannt system) scared me Sh$%^tless. I thought maybe the coolant system being pressurized caused the cap to fail.

anyway, I have a better sealing cap on now and we'll see how she runs.

Welcome to the forums and nice stang.

With the amount of boost you are running if you run it hard frequently and hot, you may find your cap breaking the seal again. It may well be just an annoyance and worse case scenario just replace the cap every once and awhile. A long term fix is to get a bigger overflow or 'icebox' as they call it. They call it that because you can also put 5 lbs of ice in to really cool you down at the track. Keeps that intercooler cold for a lot longer and you can hot-pass with it. Vortech sells one for about $200 and it's a great unit. A lot of s/c guys have it. You'll have to relocate your battery to the trunk but it's no big deal. It's great for daily driving too as it holds way more fluid for the cooler.

Also, keep in mind. Cooling systems operate at approx 16-20psi. For his head lifting theory to be correct, it would be a compression leak due to a blown head gasket. But you mention no symtoms of that.

I'm procharged as well. I installed mine when it was a bit chilly and the first time I ran it hot on a warmer day, it burped all over from the new overflow bottle. Quite embarrassing as I was on my way to a meet and greet and didn't know it happened 'til I popped the hood! [:@]

As far as I can tell, when the motor is cold, the overflow bottle should be near emtpy and you won't have a spontaneous vomit and you will still keep cool enough. Though I am running the stock 9psi, and you seem to have a smaller pulley. I think it should still solve the issue though!

Good luck!
