Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor part ???
https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/...cPoliceInt.asp
was driving by a raised flatbed w/ 2 Crown Victoria Police Interceptors on it. i looked carefully at the underside of the cars above my head, looking for suspension mods, etc.
under the gas tank there was a dark rectangular metal box about 3" X 12" X 14" (estimate), the underside of car was primarily gray whereas this box is dark charcoal/black
any ideas as to what it was?
a passing thought: reminiscent of Gyro in the trunk of Fla Hwy Patrol in the 60's...did they ever work?

Optional Fire Suppression System helps reduce the risk of injury in high-speed, high energy rear impacts by deploying chemicals that curb the spread of fire. This can allow more time to exit the vehicle or to wait for help to arrive.
Seems as thhough the deminsions given would be a bit big for that, but possibility?
~Josh~
Or even a better possibility is the optional 'trunk pack' for the P.I. cars. (Very last link at the bottom of that page).

Was it under the gas tank or under the trunk? The fuel tank on the Panther platform cars sits up vertically ahead of the trunk and I doubt you could have seen it from that angle. They have a box that sits underneath the trunk that has something to do with emissions. I suspect this is what you were seeing. I could check my shop manual if you're interested in what it does, exactly.
