What specific acceleration problem(s) are you having?
If it's regarding a stalling feel when slowing down and then accelerating, or downshifting and accelerating immediately after a long trip at highway cruising speeds(60 mph +/-), then the new fuel pump should fix it. Actually, Ford put out a tsb(technical service bulletin) for that problem.
But if it's regarding a throttle response delay every time you floor the gas pedal in 1st gear(specifically if you car has an auto tranny), then you'll need an aftermarket tune to solve that problem.

So there is a TSB on the "popping and jerking" when you downshift from 5th to 4th?
