Default Reflash issue

I want to get a cold air intake,...a C & L to be exact, but I really don't want to have to spend $400 on a tuner to have my car recognize that it is there. Do places reflash for you?

I seriously doubt it, unless you live next door to Brenspeed or something. Unless you don't plan on adding anymore mods to your car (don't kid yourself lol), you almost have to consider a tuner as standard equipment. I know you don't want to hear, "If you want to play, you gotta pay", but it's unfortunately very true.

I just ordered a Borla axle-back exhaust. Does the OBD need a reflash?

The tuner is not for the computer to "see" that you have a CAI installed. The most important thing it does is set the A/F ratio specifically for your CAI. It will also have other tweaks for your system as well and gain you more HP. It's worth the investment! Besides, without that specific tune you'll run too lean and your car will run like crap.

Besides your computer will adjust to your driving habits and you will need to reflash you ECM with the SCT2 to keep it running its strongest.

Is there a way you can tell if your car is running lean without putting it on a dyno. The closest one is at least 2 hrs away and I don't want to be runnin around lean and not knowing it. I have the JLT/Evo tune. I know fred is really good but **** does happen. But I can't afford for it to happen.

The truth is you will get the most bang for your buck from a tuner so buying a tuner should be first on your list over any othe mods IMHO.

Hi cboisits,

You sound just like a the typical ricer fanboy. You claim you want performance, you want the looks but you don't want to pay for it for some reason. Don't be a cheap skate! 8^)

Seriously though, don't bother to buy any cold air intake unless you buy a Predator or XCal2 handheld tuner, it's a waste of money and you car will run like crap, that's the simple truth. This problem is caused by the CAI's new filter element, MAF housing and if included, intake tube flow characteristics being so different form what they replaced. When you change any part of the intake tract significantly you end up changing the intake tract's characteristic air flow curve. The problem is that if you change the air intake system the air flow characteristics the ECU thinks that should be there will be totally wrong and the ECU can only compensate so much. Part of the problem is that the O2 sensors in the system are crappy narrow band lightswitches that can only tell the ECU if the A/F ratio is in band or out and the trend or direction it was going when it went out of measureable range. This limits the ability of the ECU to correct for virtually any change that affects intake air flow traits so you end up with poor A/F ratio in both closed loop or open loop modes. This make your engine performance bad and potentially damaging in the long term if not corrected.

Get it? Hope this helps!

Cheers/Chip
