Default 2000 mi computor adjustment ?

I didn't know there was a CRUISE IN at the local RAX tonight. I saw it, and stopped by, lotta sweet ol cars, even a 68FB, RR, ***aro's etc. 1 05 6, and a 06 GT vert, I felt pretty cool when my 'STANG got some immediate attention. Anyway, the guy with the vert asks me how many mi ? I say 630. He sez "hurry up and get 2000 on it". Because at 2000 the computor adjusts, and let's full power to the engine. He could tell,....... I was like WTF ????

I really am skeptical about this. I've not read, heard or seen anything like this. Granted, they do "loosen" up some, and get a little faster with some miles on them. But,................. the computor "let's loose to full power ??"

ANYONE'S THOUGHTS ??? SOMEBODY, ANYBODY

I've neither heard of it, nor felt it.

It sounds like the guy wasn't speaking literally, and that he was saying that you need to break the engine in for better performance.

lol, I hate when people try to sound intelligent by saying things that other people have told them!

I bought my GT from a Saleen Ford dealer, one of the mechanics that does performance mods at the dealer told me that the car (engine) will loosen up after 2-3K miles. He said its only soemthing you notice if you can drive a fresh car vs. one with a few thousand miles on it.

Technically and logically it makes sense. I have no idea if it is true but the computer does control every aspect of the cars performance so it would be easy to program it to take it a bit easier for the first 2,000 miles. Kind of like a “forced” break-in period you can’t do anything about…

It would be interesting to know from people who state they have a lag in performance due to the drive by wire. In other words some people say it seems like it takes a second or two after they smash the gas peddle until the motor goes. I wonder if it is more prominent before 2,000 miles.

I know in car&driver that when they have tests on new cars and then again after 30K or so miles the 1/4 mile times drop by a few tenths and gas mileage comes up. Makes sence an engine losens up. I'm sure that the programer guys can tell you that there is no break-in program installed though..
