OCTAIN BOOSTERS?
Sometiomes i buy the little outlaw octain boosters and add them when i fill up my tank. does the outlaw boosters do anything? one time i bought a NOS Octain Booster with Nitromethane.. i think it boosts it like 6 octain points.
i know how its works... higher octain, bigger explosion... go faster...
just wondering if its a waste of money...

RE: OCTAIN BOOSTERS?
Well since you asked yes a waste of money IMO. They do not raise the octane as advertised. You are better off buying premium at the pump and just to clarify octane does not make a “bigger explosion†it just slows the burn rate down to lengthen the burn and prevent detonation. aka “PING

RE: OCTAIN BOOSTERS?
To elaborate on what lugnut posted, increased octane is designed to PREVENT a big explosion. This is important if advanced timing, compression, heat and/or forced induction is a factor, but for a stock tuned engine, it does absolutely nothing for performance.

RE: OCTAIN BOOSTERS?
As the others said, it is now pretty widely known that octane boosters do not in fact raise the "real" octane value as advertised.
In addition, if you are running a stock tune your car will not run any differently on higher octane fuel. In order to take advantage of higher octane, you need to run a tune with advanced timing. Either that or raise your compression, deck your heads, or put on a power adder

RE: OCTAIN BOOSTERS?
I have to laugh at these octane threads that seem to come up about once a week lately.... Sooooo.... let me try to explain once more.... octane DOES NOT add power to your engine... anything you do to add octane (including burning premium gas) is a waste of money UNLESS your car needs addl octane to control burn... such as high compression, etc as pointed out above... Can somebody make a sticky for this thread so next week we can just refer people to this thread when the question is asked again...
