Did I ruin my car?

Did I ruin my car?
Okay, so I was at the car wash today with my girlfriend. I haven't heard the Bassani's from outside the car in awhile, so I asked her to get in and give her a little rev while the car is in park. She revs it way too low for me to hear much of everything, so I ask her to give it more juice. Now, she gives it waaaaay to much and I am wincing. I am not sure how high she got the RPMs but it may have been close to 5-6k for all I know. While in park.
Anyway, pissed off that I let my girl get behind the wheel of my car we eventually leave, and not long after getting on the highway, I hear two loud pops from the back of the car. I am assuming it backfired, it was that kind of sound.
Car seems to be running fine now, but I am a little worried. Could some damage have been caused from revving the engine that high while in park? Something that might cause the engine to backfire?
I drive the Mustang pretty moderately and am not in the habit of revving the car while stopped, so I am upset that I let this happen. I was planning on getting the CAI and tune soon, but now I am worried I may have done something to the engine, so I don't want to risk losing that engine warranty now.
Anyone else ever experience any backfiring?

hmmm had this happen as well, but not after reving in park. got a cai / tune and was runnin her pretty hard, and driving up a gradual slope at 30 mph, got a mediocre blop out of the exhaust. thought we got hit by a golf ball or something. but it was a backfire ish sound. if anyone has some insight, anything would be appreciate.

No expert here, but I would imagine the excess unburned fuel you produce by reving the engine without a load on it would make it's way through your exhaust and out the tail pipe where it meets some fresh air. Fuel plus heat plus air and there you go. I seriously doubt there's any serious damage if at all. Now if you heard a pop, ping, or bang under the hood... As for a tune causing a little backfire...maybe tuned a bit rich to make it a little safer at an advanced timing. I dunno really but again I doubt any damage there either. It's running lean you gotta worry about and I doubt we'd be talking about backfire in that case.

You're ok, I'm almost positive there is no damage. The sound that you are most likely hearing is exactly what Airborneflyguy said. I actually love the sound, 'burbles' is what i've heard others call it. I usually hear it in the morning, and I my tune is a little on the conservative side so its a tad rich.

The computer has a rev-limiter built into it, unless you have changed it with a custom tune. It limits the RPM's to 6250, so I don't think she went above that. If you still have it set at that, you should be fine.

I'm not sure you can blow up or really do a lot of harm to your car in park with the limiter there.
I have seen over the years people do some extreamly stupid things to engines in cars and motorcycles. Sometimes just drunk and showing off. but just absoutly cranking the ever living hell out an engine with no aparent damage.
I would never sugest it's ok, but I'm sure your car is just fine.

That is a classic backfire coming from a rich condition....as has been stated..reving the engine without a load pushes fuel past the cylinder into the exhaust system....it heats up enough to combust...bang ..once and its gone...
Now consider the point at which the combustion takes place...I have seen mufflers swelled from that occurring...I don't know about the effect on a catalytic converter, but my guess is it is not a good thing....
As for the burbbles...that is from back pressure in the exhaust system and as you know it is something kind of unique to performance exhaust systems...

You're good. Only way you can over rev your stang (unless rev limiter is turned off) is by mechanically over revving. i.e going 80mph and accidently putting the car into 2nd gear. At that point you are physically making the engine spin faster than it can handle.
