Any experience with Granatelli CAI/MAF combo?
I just found a link to a CAI made by Granatelli that includes their MAF and they say it doesn't need a new tune because their MAF does the job.
Here's a link...

Also this article explains it better:

Has anyone installed one of these?

Whether your predator, sct, or anything else for that matter - NOTHING beats the MAF.i.a. - It is the only one that utilizes your stock compononent and the best on the market hands down. There is not a pro car or builder car out there that is not using it.

This took a while for me to find...but finally found someone who sells this:
http://www.jdsperformance.com/index....tem&inmake=651
It's $289 (satin finish) and includes the Mass Air Sensor.
Looks like it could be an easy take off product if you had to put your stock back on.
They say it doesn't need a tune because of their Mass Air Sensor so I'm wondering if this would be a good alternative instead of CAI + Tune.

The article says +40 RWHP with their throttle body (about $400 bucks with tax/shipping). Any idea what it would be with just the $289 CAI? You have to wonder about the $/HP for these two items.

Every one else I've talked to has said aftermarket T/Bs won't really do you much good until you get head work done. But as far as Granatelli they have quite a few products out for the S197 so they may be good products.

I had read the same thing, TB's only good for single-digit HP increases. 400 smackers seems pricey for 6 or 8 ponies. If that holds for Granatelli, 30+ HP for the $289 CAI seems like a pretty good deal, eh?

Granatelli claims the correct fuel to air is always maintained due to their calibrated MAS, hence no need for a tune to compensate. This is the only part I wonder about. I hope I can find some testimonials from people actually using these but they seem to be pretty new for now. If indeed this works correctly then it would be a cheaper alternative, looks easy to take off and replace back to stock, and you don't have to worry about flashing.

I read the article and it leaves me still not convinced. Yes, at less than WOT, in closed loop, the computer is depending on the input from the MAF and indeed this setup probably works fine. But, under WOT, the Spanish Oak goes into "open loop" where it depends on parameters that are prepopulated into the computer to set the a/f fuel tables. These are the parameters that are reset by a programmer when loading a different performance tune, i.e., a Predator 93 tune adds 4% to the fuel table under WOT. This leads me to think that without a tune, even this setup may lead to a lean condition under WOT when the calibration is not dependent on the MAF for it's fuel tables.[:-]
