Default Oil changes

What is recommended on a new Mustang, change the oil at the 3,000 mark or at the 1,000 break in mark.

I went with the 1000 figuring it was cheap insurance and then 3000 or aunual or which ever comes first at storage time.

I know it may be over kill but I changed at 500, then 1500, then every 3000. Been doing that forever on new vehicles and have always had good luck with motors.

Ford recommends every 5k miles.

Here's a nice site that will help with all the scheduled maintnance.

I'm at 3k now. The manual said 5k before the oil change. Should I not follow the manual?

Every 5k is fine and go ahead and make the switch to Synthetic. Mobil 1 5w20. Also you can get the Motorcraft oil filters at Wally World for like 3.70

The every 3k mark came from the old days when oils were not as good as they are now.

This is good advice!! And it's not overkill. It's why your engines last forever. The 500 and 1000 mile oil changes are the engines most important.

No way would I wait until 5,000 miles before changing break in oil. I did mine at 2,500 which was probably on the late side. I'd do it now as cheap insurance.
