Default RE: how many do there own performance part installs?

I went nuts on my prior mustang (built a nice 351W motor, swaped auto out for stick, changed rear, etc...) but then went silent in '98 and let the dealer do all the work on my exploder and the old stang sat (moved into unfriendly emissions territory).

Now that the warranty on the Explorer has expired I am suffering from my trust/neglect as I find that the dealer did me no favors in "taking care" of my engine during all my scheduled visits...

I guess I should not have expected much, but 1K miles after warranty expired, I have:
a. replaced sputtered/eroded plugs that had clearly never even been puilled out for a look
b. replaced cracked, scary looking Serp. belt that noone in their right mind would leave on a car
c. replaced stuck thermostat
d. replaced bad oil pres sensor (there is a white-knuckle drive! that is a not a nice needle to have drop)

I did not expect them to clean the engine, but were it not for EEC, those plugs would not have run... (everyone should disconnect their battery now and then and see how their computer controlled car really runs... )

Plans for the '06 are more modest as it started out pretty darn good and if I want to do silly things like pull motors I can jack up the 85 and find creative ways to slash my knuckles under there...

things i wont do
install gears, rebuild auot trans or manual trans, paint major body parts. anything else no problem. so far ive install my roush and cdc body parts, frpp hood pins. when i start my engine mods headers, cams, heads ect i will do all that myself. if i decide to streathen my short block i will buy a kit crank, rods, pistons, rings and build it myself. just looking in a mag a ad has the rotating assebly for 1650.00 but a short block 3895.oo. so are they charging 2200.99+ for a couple hours 3-4 to assemble??? not right.

My 45 year old back can't take the bending over like it used to, so I get the major work done by someone else.

I did all the work on my '88 except the rear end, control arms and subframe connectors. There is a tremendous advantage in having a car that you don't have to drive monday morning when you start into a project on a friday night....
