It's an urban legend that turbos operate with no parasitic losses. I've read tech articles on this and under boost turbos create nearly as much parasitic loss as a belt driven SC. It has something to do with the backpressure under boost, once it exceeds "3bar" (whatever that measurement is) it becomes parasitic. As for "how" parasitic it is, that depends on a lot of factors.

SC manufacturers do not publish how much HP it takes to drive their SC, but it isn't 100 hp. Probably closer to 10 or 15. It's not a lot different than driving an A/C compressor.

I have over $6000 for mods to my new 2006 Mustang GT. I want to get the Saleen SuperCharger. That takes away a good chunk of change!!

What exactly would you spend $2000 on if you had the SuperCharger in hand?
try the group buy that they are having on the saleen sc

Ok,

1 Bar = 14PSI

3 Bar = 42PSI

That is a whole lot of boost to have for free.

I was exagerating with the 100HP parasitic loss, but It is not as far off as I we would like to think it is. If you go to Eaton's web site you can see the actual HP curves and what it takes to run a supercharger. It looks like the saleen SC would come in about 50-60HP draw to run it at 10PSI. Where with a turbo you could have those extra 50HP for free. Having put a KB SC on my first gen lightning, I have looked into this quite a bit and am now leaning to check out the turbo kits a little more.

All of this considered, I do really like the Saleen kit...

with the extra $ I'd invest in a pair of big stickies in the back. heard good things about nitto and m/t. i have the bfg's and have not been all that impressed. but with the extra power you will definitely need the traction.

might also do a short throw shifter. I just got a hurst and it rocks. very short n notchy and much better feel when shifting under high load.

or...you might save your two grand and then when you have a few more grand to add to it go ahead and invest in forged internals to you can crank the boost safely and make some monster power!

There's no way it takes 100 hp to turn a Saleen supercharger on a Mustang GT. Maybe on a top fuel dragster it takes that and more.
Anything that gives me another 100 hp to the wheels whether it be turbo or blower is good.
Parasitic drag of S/C's depend on style and amount of boost. Turbos are more efficeint.

It takes ~500hp to turn a Top Fuel S/C at full boost.

3bar? Holy cow thats 43lbs of boost!!!!!!!!!!! Thats SSO territory!

Do your research buddy, it's a lot more than 10-15 hp with the Saleen blower. Less than 100, but more than 50
