I've never heard of that expression before.

...sounds like DRONE to me. This has been discussed many times.

It will be linked to engine RPM. Watch your tach. Installing resonators will get rid of it.

trumpeting? like an elephant?

Nonono, trumpeting and drone are NOT the same thing. The best way drone can be described is if you're singing in the shower and you hit that one note that makes it feel like the walls are vibrating, that's drone. It's something you feel more than hear. Some people find droning exhaust to be REALLY annoying while others aren't bothered by it at all. Almost always, the exhaust drone is at one particular RPM. If you go faster or slower the drone goes away.

Trumpeting is more of a "blatting" sound under acceleration. Trumpeting is much more apparent from outside the car than inside. I am fully convinced that if people could hear what their SLP Loudmouths sounded like from OUTSIDE, they would take them off right away. Those things trumpet worse than any exhaust I've ever heard. It sounds terrible.

someone record a trumpeting mustang please. now i gotta know what the hell it is. i've heard this so many times but have no idea what it sounds like. i agree if most people could hear how trashy those lous mouths sound they would chuck them in a heartbeat. all they did was take off the muffler. hows that sound good? the sound reminds me of an old dude hillbilly cruising around in the 78 fleetwood with no hubcaps, different colored doors and rusted out exhaust dragging the ground.
