Default RE: Over reacting????

Well I went out and bought the Mobile 1 5w20 Full Synthetic... and a Motocraft filter... I am about 4700 miles, and can't wait to hit 5000 so I can change it, and see if it goes away... It got really loud after my trip to the shore, you can hear it echoing off the cars beside me... But maybe thats because I was driving all day... Lets hope this fixes it... Whats the best way to jack up the car to rotate all 4 tires? I hate jacking up one side at a time... Is it safe to jack by the frame, or differential? I do have 4 good jack stands... (Should I just take it to dealer and ask them to rotate?)

Let me know... thanks

well, not really any way to jack the whole car up at once without a lift. . . but yeah, any tire shop will rotate your tires for like 15 to 20 bucks and it usually only takes about 5 min. . . much easier than doing it yourself . . .

there are some places under the car that are ideal for jacking the car up, like where the struts connect, but its dependant on the jack. . . frame would be ideal,

but if you can, i would suggest letting someone change them at a tire shop. . .

yeah, i think the synthetic oil will calm that noise down drastically . . .

Mine only taps (increases frequency as engine speed increases) when at operating temp, or warm...

The factory oil is Synth blend... At least I think so... maybe not. But even synth blend doesn't compare with full syn... I had conventional oil in my towncar (98 with 4.6), then switched to synth blend.. engine ran a bit smoother, but not much... Then I went to mobile 1 full synth... That engine ran smoother than it ever has, and got 3 mpg better city, and like 2 highway, and ran at least twice as smooth... You can tell that it was doing something especially in the winter, because it took much longer to get to operating temp.. (meaning alot less friction inside the engine)

Synth blend is only like 20% synth or something... Go full IMO...

Can't wait to get it in the stang...

synthetic blend...

I would not expect too much from the change, but I can say from mine that it runs a little cooler... (a needle to the left - gotta love that precise meter).

Looking at the oil that came out at 2K miles, there was plenty of "stuff" in it (likely assembly lube, but assorted "contaminants" as well)... Nothing unexpected or bad - not to scare anyone (including me), but it definitely wasn't a bad thing to change it early...

So, the temp drop is likely just fresh clean oil. Can't say it runs any quieter...

You know whats weird? We had a recent drop in temperature in the Philadelphia area... It was like 90+ degrees for the past month, and now its cool and nice during the nights and evenings... The tapping noise kinda stopped! Thats right stopped... And no, i didn't even change the oil yet since I had the problem! (I changed it at 2500, but it did it after that as well) I wonder if it has anything to do with the viscosity of the oil and its circulating better from the cooler temp? Who knows, but it doesn't sound terrible anymore... But synth goes in now less than 100 miles... (Damn I drive alot... mostly for work... sucks!)

Idon't get it.. but im not complaining.. maybe it had to break in a bit more? The timing chain or something? who knwos...
