Anyone else have problems hitting 3rd with the 3650?

The shifter should be "loaded" so that if you let it go free, it should be centered between the 3-4 gears.
1-2 you have to pull to the left, and put it forward or rearward to get the gear.
5-R you have to push the shifter right, and push forward or rearward to get the apropriate gear.
3-4 you should let the shifter go the the center by itself, then you just have to push the shifeter into 3 or 4.

Thanks for the help 4gery, but letting the shifter "go" to 3rd is what causes me the problem. As I kinda pointed out, I'm not a n00b at a stickshift, I've been driving them hard for over 25 years.

When I test-drove my new '06, I thought that the 3650 shifted way better than the Borg-Warner in my '88, but boy, was I wrong about that first impression. I've had a problem hitting 3rd so many times that I think that I have a "golf swing" mental block now. I'm not talking about hitting 3rd under pressure, like while racing, I mean just in casually driving. At least once a day it's a whoops! I can't find it! A while ago, someone posted this link that describes an overhand/underhand shifting technique that actually helps alot, but I still can't do it without thinking about it.
Anyone else having a 3rd gear problem or am I just a klutz?

In all honesty, people have complained about missing 3rd since this tranny first came out years ago. A short throw helps a lot, but third always feels a bit notchy.

Thanks for the obvious, but I don't "let my shifter go" even in casual driving. That's the point of my original post. Letting the shifter "go" to 3rd is what causes me the problem. It never "goes" there obviously.

It's not "letting my shifter go", it's not applying any pressure (right/left) as you go into 3 or 4.
Have someone else that knows what they are doing drive it. Maybe your shifter is just goofy.

since getting my car in december I had only chirped third like 3 times...missed it more than hit it(onramp addiction). anyway, went to the strip tuesday and had a ball- 10 runs chirped them everytime. I swear after the strip runs, the shifter almost falls into third- noticed it leaving the track...so I think its just a wear item that needs some break in time to round off some sharp corners on the gating or something. glad now I didnt go buy a shifter.
if 'gate wear' is the breakin, perhaps let the kids sit in the car and have them bang from left side of neutral into third a few hundred times I think aggressive shifting cant be good for the tranny, but excessive pressure slamming it around the gate mechanism must help lap the corners down a bit to allow smoother engagement.
btw- couldnt hit 13's...14.02 @ 102 was best I could do (with traction control on). with lower tire pressure I'm told theyll hook up much better - may try again soon...
