Default Will my GT beat a speed3?

Prior to buying my 06 gt I was thinking about waiting for the mazdaspeed 3 due out for 2007. Edmunds is reporting 274hp and a price tag well under $25K. With a 700lb weight advantage going to the mazda which would be fastest in the 1/4? I'm guessing the front wheel drive mazda will lose less hp through the transmission so the actual hp at the wheels should be pretty close, no?

05/06 Stangs get about 260-270 to the wheels, and about 290 torque I believe.

Even with the weight advantage of the mazda speed3, I don't think it would be able to keep up withthe stang....

I'm guessing it will prolly run like this

13.4-13.6 with the 'Stang, 15.4-15.7 with the Speed3

15.4? I would have thought it would atleast be in the 14's. Edmunds says 274hp and 280 lbs torque, 0-60 is supposedly 6 seconds, i figured it might have some turbo lag that would effect the 0-60 time, but I don't know when turbo lag happens. I know front wheel drive is not ideal for drag racing. I really like the look of the car for a hatchback, but I didn't think i'd be happy with a front wheel drive car no matter what the hp #'s.

I would probably go with 14's too, but I don't think that it will take the Mustang.

less hp and trq for the SPeed3 will hurt it so much at takeoff and things. . . its looking at mid 14's prolly. . . a month of driving my bone stock 06 i got 14 flats. . . 2.2 60 fts . . . and thats crappy for a new GT IMO

Also from a stop the Speed3 is going to be harder to get off the line since it is FWD. It's really your choice if you would rather have a FWD car that is turbod or a real beast like the Mustang GT.

Yes the GT would beat a Speed3 even with a bad driver.

It wont take the mustang down. The new mustangs take of so fast and are so powerful it wont be able to keep up.

FWD cars aren't bad for the track, nor are they horrible at launching. Why? The weight is on the wheels, and it's going to help it grab traction. I know some people with Cavaliers of all things that are getting 1.6-2.0 60 fts because they are just grabbing so easily. Though that of course is where they fall on their face and end up with a high 14-15s

There is a reason why we put our batteries in our trunks, or take out our front sway bars. To help transfer the weight from the front of the car, to the rear of the car where we need it.

Not saying I'm for FWD, I love my RWD, but I just noticed some of the posts and it seemed that everyone was underestimating a few things. (I don't know anything about the car in question, and don't really care. )

Menace, keep in mind that a FWD car transfers its weight off the drive wheels when it takes off. That's bad for launching. That's why RWD guys relocate batteries to the rear; to put even more weight on the rear tires for more traction during the launch.
