Default Got surprised by a new Impala SS.

I saw him crowding my rear bumper while I was doing the loop to get on the highway. I wasn't sure what it was, I could just see the bowtie on the front grill. Figured a cobalt or something. As the road straighten on the entrance ramp did a mental Han Solo-esque "watch this". I could have downshifted back to 1st but didn't figure I needed and was in a desent rpm range in 2nd. I ran it up to about 80mph and was only slightly pulling on him.

I didn't realize they were putting V8's in those things now, eventhough its FWD. Chevy needs to give it some styling. Its sad when you can't recognize an SS until you see it from two or three sides.

Weight is up about a hundred pounds across the board, with the SS tipping the scales at 3,712 pounds (a Chrysler 300 weighs 4,066 pounds).

Still, the 303-hp, 5.3-liter V8-equipped Impala SS is the one you want. It rips out 323 pound-feet of torque at 4,400 rpm, and is the quickest Impala ever built. That's right, 409 fans. Sorry, big-block buffs. Chevy says the new Impala SS can hit 0-60 in 5.7 seconds which dusts every single one of the car's storied ancestors.

I think being FWD is an embarrassment to those poor cars.

A 305 HP Impala an embarrassing poor car????. What IS embarrassing is Ford's counterparts, the 500 and Fusion.....Yuk! Ford should have restyled the Taurus and given it more *****.

With the exception of the Mustang, Ford's styling sucks big time!!

Thats whos buying(or acquiring) these cars. Same with the Escalade. They market these vehicles to the people who buy them the most. I personally think the new impalas are bland and boring reguardless of the fact there is a V-8 under the hood. the 94-95 Impalas were the last cars built that even closely resemble an Impala. These new ones are nothing more than glorified Luminas.
