Default Tune a Stock GT?

A few tuner questions...

#1
If I buy a tuner, do I simply hook it to the car and download a tune by myself? Or do I buy a tuner and take it to a shop to have this done?

#2
And will I see increased performance tuning my stock 2006 GT auto? I don't plan on adding any mods, mainly because of warranty concerns. So I'd like to tune the car to give it more life, then put it back to the stock tune just before taking it to the dealer when I need to.

#3
Can a dealer determine if the car has been tuned using one of these devices?

Thanks,
Ron

1) You do it yourself.

2) Yes you will see increased performance, and an awesome reduction in throttle lag.

3) No. Even if they could, they wouldnt be able to do anything about it.

1) Yes. Typically, you buy the tuner from a tune shop, or someone who has pre-programed it, and plug it into a port on the driver's side console. You select the tune and the tuner uploads the program to the car. Typically, most people tun their car when they get a cold air intake kit. The two most common tunes folks use on this forum are from Evolution Performace (www.evoperform.com) or Brenspeed (www.brenspeed.com). Both shops offer great deals on CAI/tuner kits, and I would highly recommend either one.

2) Absolutely! I can tell you from experience that my car was a completely different beast after I installed the cold air kit and tune. It's probably the best "bang for your buck" mod.

3) There are different theories regarding if a dealer can tell the computer has been flashed. I think the general feeling is "no", they can just the computer has been wiped.

seriously like the other guys said, cai + tuner will give you a whole new car! it is worth the money and then some. i wouldn't really worry about your warranty with the cai. you can ask around your local dealers if you want but i think only in rare cases will a dealer try to screw you out of warranty work with a cai. if they do then just go down the street to another ford dealer. my service shop here is awesome about mods and i don't even bother taking off the cai when i take it in.

Dont waist your money tuning your car with the stock air box. . . your wasting your money IMO. . . CAI + tuner is around 26+ rwhp, you can't beat that, without the CAI, your only looking at 10 rwhp.

running 93 octane isn't worth it unless you've got a very nice gain in HP, a suggestion on where to get a package, www.brenspeed.com , look for the C&L non-racer package w/ Xcal2, thats what I and most of the ppl on here have. . . let me tell you, 93 octane tune on that package. . . unreal the power gain

All we have around here is 91 octane. What should I expect for HP gains on the 91 tune? Thanks

You wouldn't feel a difference between running 91 VS 93....... just make sure you run the right tune for the gas you put in!!! [sm=trust_me.gif]

very close. . . nothing noticable. . . maybe 1 or 2 rwhp
