Default JLT II CAI Filter Oil?

Someone told me at a car show that my air filter didn't have enough oil on it. I just got the filter a few months ago. How often do I need to oil the filter? I didn't see any mention of this in the JLT manual. I thought it came already oiled.

thanks

I oil mine after everytime I wash it. I live on the beach so It doesn't take long to gunk that thing up with sand. I just use some K&N oil I have left over from my Camaro's intake, works like a charm. Not exactly sure what it does, but I figure it can't hurt since they recommend it.

I dont think you're supposed to oil the intake except when its "dirty" and you basically wash it out and let it dry. Then re-oil with a lite coating of oil. to much oil will get into the intake and screw up your Air Sensor. I would bet if your Filter is new it's fine and has plenty of oil.

DO NOT add more oil the filter this can destroy the MAF Sensor if the oil flies into the intake tract and gets on the MAF. You should only need to clean and then re oil the filter about every 20k or so. More if you live in a very dirty area. The filter must be removed to clean and re oil. First you apply the K&N or similar cleaner and let it soak for a few minutes then rinse with water completely. Then re oil with a very light coat just enough to cover the pleats of the filter. K&N say to clean every 50k but i personally think that is to long. Even oncea year would be ok as long as you do not over oil

Thanks for the info! I don't live in a dirty area, only drive my convertible on sunny days. [8D]

I have a JLT-II.

I think that filter is looking way too dry.

I would get an S+B filter kit, take the filter off, and LIGHTLY oil it.

The procedure for cleaning and oiling the filter is to

1- Take the filter out of the car, and throughouly wash it both inside and out untill the water runs clean
2- Let it dry
3- Rinse it again
4- Let it dry
5- Lighly oil it so that the filter's color is even and it doesn't drip
