Default 5.00 gears

has anyone gone higher than 4.30 for their gears in the back? if i went to 5.00 yeah i'd kill my top end and gas mileage, but wouldn't the car be a monster at the track? im thinking 11's bone stock + 5.00 gears...(and slicks!)

insights? opinons?

well you would be turning your 5 speed into a 4 speed, because
i don't see where you would ever use first gear again.....sounds
interesting

sorry dude, 11's with just outrageous gears ain't gonna happen. your gonna shift at like 15 mph. pointless. im thinking 14-15's bone stock with a trap speed of like 90 mph. thats all your gonna get to. theres a curve with the gears; past a certain point, it gets worse, not better.

[sm=jawdrop.gif]I would think that the time you'd lose shifting would actually hurt your 1/4 et and like hammeron said first gear would basically go up in smoke, tire smoke. I'm going 4.10 tomorrow although my hwy acceleration should be much improved I won't be suprised if my 1/4 et is slower since I'll be shifting to 4th instead of staying in third. Heck you might even be grabbing fifth with a 5.00 rear gear. I've never heard of a street car running such a gear. 4.56 is the shortest gear I've ever heard of in some extreme case to run the street.

yeah dude, you'd be shifting so much you would be in overdrive before you got to the end. . .

it would hurt more than help. . .

the most for these cars that would help would be 4.30's, any higher, and your shifting too much IMO

with a 27" tall tire and 5.22s in a 5 speed you should be at 149 mph at 6000 rpms in 5th gear

true, but the goal of lower gearing is to cross the line in the 1/4 at just past peak power point in 4th gear (5th is a steep economy gear). for me, 4.30s accomplish that. with a blower or some nitrous, 4.10s or 3.90s would accomplish that depending on power output.

Do you think 4.10's in an auto would be too much if blown?

not if you know how to drive, if i wanted to i could put 4.56s in with a KB and not have a problem if i know how to control the throttle
