Default 3.31 gears

New here, please help.

Looking at an 07 GT with 3.31 gears
Is there any reason to pay the extra $100 for the 3.55 gears on an 07 GT if you plan to go with 3.73 gears later on anyway?

Other than the ratio, the rearends are the same correct? as far as being limited-slip?

Absolutely no reason to upgrade now if you definately plan on going to 3.73 in the future. And right, aside from the gears, the rear ends are exactly the same.

I also asked the dealer about them putting the 3.73 gears in before i pick it up and they said they could not do it because it would void the warranty. Is this right? doesn't sound right to me

Unless something changed for 07 the LSD is optional on the autos but standard on the manuals. 3.31 is the gear your thinking of though. Personally I say go 4.10 unless your getting an auto or going FI. If I was running 3.73 I don't think I would have noticed much of a difference. There are some charts out and about that tell you what RPM you'll be running at what speed.

The traction lock has been standard on ALL V8 Mustangs since they started putting the 8.8 in Mustangs, so you are incorrect. The only difference between the rearends is the gear ratio everything else is the same.

Well I just looked at an old brochure for the 06 GT and that it said the LSD/T-Lok was optional on GTs with autos. . If the LSD and T-lok are different then my bad. I drive a manual so wasn't worried about that issue since they came standard on manauls. I've never tooken apart a diff on an auto so I don't know for sure what ford put back there.

They are the same thing and I can assure you it is standard in all V8 Mustangs with an 8.8 since 1987.

Ok I'll take your word for it. At least its something nice to start off with instead of having to go out and buy your own.

I thought the same thing. The 2006 Mustang brochure does specifically show that T-LOC is an OPTION with an AUTO. I did not get this option but the rear end is equipped with TRAC-LOC none-the-less. Clutches are there with the moan to boot!!
