There is nothing strange about the Mustang rear end. It's a Ford 8.8" unit, which has been used in many different cars since '83: F150s, Explorers, full-size sedans, V8 mustangs, Aerostar, Cougar, etc...

The style of the 8.8 is very similar--nigh identical--to most other rear axles. Any professional mechanic shop should be able to handle it.

I plan on doing my own gears when i get around to it. i have done a couple 8.8s before and they are pretty easy, dana 44s are harder. last set i put in was in a sterling 10.25 and it wasnt too bad. the thing that always helps me is having a good chart with a bunch of patterns on it, helps to see which direction you need to go with the shims.

Yeah I hate it when they are booked forever. I always think to myself, "dude you are missing alot of money, hire some more people and expand" Anyway, I am waiting on my 4.10's to arrive so I hope my guys schedule will be cool to install. I am not one to try that install myself. I can just see my rear blowing apart on the hwy in a million metal chunks! lol

I highly advise you to go to someone who has done this a lot and knows what they are doing.

If they get the lash wrong or the wear pattern wrong, they will whine and wear out quicker!

Thx,

Mike

+1
Best advise posted.
