Economy Tune?
 

I currently have the Brenspeed 87, 91, and 93 tunes (I run the 93), but was wondering if anyone ever thought of an economy or valet tune? I came from a 1.8t Jetta that had a chip by GIAC. It was a great car for what I could afford 3 years ago. The little chipped 1.8T ran a 14.4! Anyway, GIAC offered tunes such as a valet tune. Which cut the horsepower, restricted top speed, as well as restrict top RPM.

I may be taking my Mustang on a 1,400 mile trip in the not too distant future. Even though I get 27 on the highway, which is great, I wonder if the computer could be tuned for economy? Sure I’d lose performance, but I’ll be loaded up with camping gear and racing won’t be my concern, I’d flash it back to 93 when I get home. Assuming the econ tune would be on 87 octane and my mileage would increase to 32 MPG I could reduce my fuel cost on the trip by around 20%.

Just reflash it with the 87 octane tune to save $ on the cost of gas. You can mess around with the timing and A/F ratio, but doing so will just mess things up for both performance and economy, as well as cause possible engine damage. And if you'll be the sole driver on the trip, then just monitor the revs and speeds instead of lowering the rev and top speed limiters. Also, don't forget to take the tuner with you in order to retard the timing if there's a pinging problem with a load of crappy fuel.

If you want to mess with a valet guy, cut the rpm's to 2000.
