black soot in the tailpipes?????
What causes black soot? I did a google search using this site and found a couple of threads. Running rich seems to be the likely culprit, but what else? I had been running 93 octane with a 91 tune, but have since gone to strictly the 93 tune, could running the 91 tune with 93 gas cause black soot? I'm going to try and find a dyno shop near me cause I want to know if i'm getting all the performance I can out of this stang.
Is there anyway to see the A/F mixture ratio using the SCT tuner without using a laptop?

RE: black soot in the tailpipes?????
I've been having the same problem, also using Brent's 93 tune, I e-mailed him about the problem, he said some soot is normal. However he did send me a different tune with less fuel, I just loaded it in today so I'll see if it improves. I have heard the tuners do go on the rich side with there e-mailed tunes.

probably for safety reasons.
I'm looking into a custom dyno tune from these guys http://www.blueovalchips.com/

RE: black soot in the tailpipes?????
Simple carbon deposits from running a little rich. Running rich isn't a bad thing other than it might knock your mileage down a TINY bit, and you'll eventually get carbon build-up in your exhaust. If you run it hard enough at times though, you won't have to worry about build-up.

RE: black soot in the tailpipes?????
The soot will always be there and it is normal. On cold starts the engine runs rich until the coolant temp reaches 150 degrees. If the car didn't run rich on cold starts it would run like crap.
