Default CAI/Tune doesn't sound right at low RPM ??

C&L with SCT2 93 Evolution tune. noticing when start slow in first gear (imagine that) lets say climb RPM slowly to 2700, engine seems to sound like a whine, sorta like the gear is slipping, only 1500 miles, punch the pedal, sounds great, growls and takes off, but at that 2700-3000 range (slow ramp now) almost sounds like engine is starved, doesnt sound natural. Is this because the 93 tune eithier meant to be 1) moved quickly through the rpma and the gears shifting toward redline or 2) taken easy up and shifting early (like 2000 or 2200 rpm) through the gears?? Doesnt seem to like being caught in the middle. is this normal? or do i take it off and bring it in to ford?

hey chef,,,I too bought Freds tune...and the metal C+L....it is awesome....from what I know....the wine you refer to I am not experiencing. I will say that with Freds 93 tune it wants to go like a bear....its like it DOES not like to go slow. ..
do you have a standard....or auto>???

I am not familiar with Evolutions tunes ( or any mail order tune for that matter ) so I can't really say.
Could the noise you are hearing just be air being sucked in to the filter? Being an open filter and larger intake path it is going to give you some noise that you did not have with the stock air box.

Stick, yeah think it might just be saying "feed me". Sounds like the gear slipping, but have tried to check rpm vs mph and seems to be going, just sounds funky. shift at 2100, and go slow sounds fine, redline it bang gears, no problem, but let out clutch easy, accelerate VERY slowly but dont shift through 3000 rpm and sort of complains like it is saying "if you want to go slow why not save gas and up shift"

Hey Chef,

I got your Email.

I'm running the C&L Intake with Brent's tune from Brenspeed, also 93 Octane. I've gone through a few incarnatins of it as I've modded the car more. I have never noticed the sound you're describing.

Sorry, but I don't know what it could me. I suggest contacting Evo and seeing what they have to say.

thanks guys, was listening to it today, sounds like it could be air rushing through. without the growl from stomping on it , airflow noise becomes more apparent. If i still worried in a few, will go back to stock air filter and tune and see how she sounds, may also be the change of weather in the northeast

I never heard anything like that before. Sounds like you have a "gear slipping"? Must be something simple, I too have the Brenspeed 93 octane tune and used the SCT Xcal2 to get it done. All that happans is it runs really good, and gets way better mileage, and never gives any problems at all.
