? about octane and brenspeed
I just recieved my sct-2 back from brenspeed today with some newer tunes. I live in oregon and we only go up to 92 octane and I wrote tthat on the list I sent but on the sct it goes, 87,89 and93. Is it safe to use the 93? I am going to call him tomorrow and see for sure. I had to try it and it was a night and day difference from his original tune from about a year ago. Just wanted some opinions, thanks, Brad.

It might be hard to hear over your SLP's (I know how they sound ).
Just give him a call bright and early tomorrow and he can sort things out for you in no time. Remember he is in a 3 hour time difference zone then us. You could get it all situated out in less than 20 minutes.

I talked to Brent when I first got my tuner many months ago. I asked him for a 92 octane tune as well. I my area we can get 93, but not all stations have it. Some have 92, so I wanted to be safe in that regard. At the time, he told me on the phone that it was no problem, I could run 92 octane on the 93 octane tune.
Also, I doubt you will hear any pinging. The engine has a knock sensor and will automatically adjust timing if you have low-octane gas. You won't be getting the performance you otherwise would have, but it won't hurt the motor.
Check with Brent to be sure, but I think you'll be fine.

Thanks for posting this question. I'm in OR too and was wondering the same thing.
I haven't had time to get back with Brenspeed to request a 92 tune so I've been running the 91 tune that came with the SCT, using the 92 gas. I was thinking about flashing to 93 this weekend to see if there is any pinging and/or noticeable difference in performance.
From what I've read in other posts about octane it shouldn't be a huge deal either way but I still think I'll request the 92 tune.
Thanks again.

Trust me, your pinging won't adjust itself. It will be hard, get a passenger to listen with you. If your running 92 octane with a 93 tune, chances are you will not hear pinging till between 5000-6000 rpms. It sounds like a BB in a tin can being shaking faster then you can possible imagine. I ran 3 tanks and finally told Brent, he said pull the timing out about 4 degrees, or he would send me a new tune. Brent is awesome, run the 93, listen for pinging, and let him know what gas and rpm you hear it at, he will send you a new tune within a week, and mine worked perfect!
