91 octane compared to 87

Nope. Are you stock? use 87 if stock. When you get a tune use what ever goes with the tune you select. I used all there at one point or another and had no pinging from any. Quality of gas can play a big part in a ping.

Actually, The folks at SCT Tuners (Ryan, one of the lead tech advisors to be specific) have tested and verified that the 05-07 mustangs make a few more HP on the 91 octane gas. And there are plenty of guys here who's car's ping on 87 even though that's what the manual calls for. And since our cars have knock sensors they will back off timing if pinging is detected.
All in all it's a good bet that we should all run mid-grade to premium (89 or higher). There are other cars that make more than the factory rating on higher octane gas (newer Accords for example gain 8-10hp switching from the recommended 87 octane to 91 octane).
I know my car runs smoother on 91.

I have been running 93 octane without any special tune for over a year with no problems. The car definitely runs better and smoother on premium. I hope to add a 93 octane tune in the near future.
