Amp Pop After New Stereo Install
I searched around a little bit but couldn't find anything. Hope fully someone who has insatlled and aftermarket stereo to replace the Skipper can help me out.
Anyway, I installed a new Pioneer DEH-P6800MP this weekend. I also installed the ipod adapter and the Sirius tuner is next.
Everything works fine except that when I turn on the stereo/car I get a poping sound coming through the amps. It happens every time.
Any body got any ideas?
Btw, if your looking to upgrade your stereo this pioneer unit is very nice! There were some things I had to figure out to get the bass and subwoofers to work correctly but I got through it. It is ipod and satelite ready and the ipod interface is great! I dont even need a cd player anymore. I'm looking forward to getting sirius in this car but both best but and circuit city were out of the tuner that goes with this unit.
Thanks

The factory amps use a 5 volt trigger, but all aftermarket heads use a 12 volt trigger wire. You need to go to Radio Shack and get a 12 volt to 5 volt regulator. They cost $1.75. I will see if I can search the part # again.

I still have a wiring diagram somewhere, but it is easy. Just look at your head units wiring diagram and install the regulator into the trigger wire coming from the head to trigger the amps. You just wire it inline and then ground it to the chassis. Run a ground to it via a short wire. It is a heatsink, so wrap it good with tape, or do like I did and use heatshink tubing on it.
