sad sight to see

RE: sad sight to see
My 17yr old daughter roller her 05 Cobalt SS this past summer when she was ran off the road @ 65 mph. Her passenger (my 17 yr old niece) had NO injuries. (very thankful for that) My daughter shattered her L2 and will be in a body brace until Jan 07. SO yes rollovers happen and I am very concerned about our 2 mustangs being convertibles.
fyi Just want to say that the Cobalt held up VERY well after seeing what it did when it went off the road sideways and barrel rolling at least 3 times. The pavement was over 6 foot higher then where the car first touched the ground in the ditch as it was rolling. I'm sure a convertible would NOT have faired as well.... (lightbar or not!)

Everyone in this forum knows our cars are indestructible. Either that was a replica or he was transporting kryptonite in the trunk.

Vert vs. Coupe
There are many factors to consider regarding safety in rollover situations bwteen coupes vs. verts. The first is a vert has a much lower center of gravity so it is less likely to roll over in the first place possibly helping AVOID a rollover ifrom happening in the first place. Second, a hard top can be compressed trapping a person with it's rigidity. Looking at that car pictured and assuming the doors are rendered useless, I'd think it would be a lot easier to free someone through the roof in a vert rather than a coupe using a jaws of life. Let's hope none of us ever have to find out.
On the plus side for a coupe, there was a hail storm here this past summer where a large area had golf ball sized hail stones pummel everyone's cars. My vert was garged but if I was out driving or it was parked outside, I have to think they would have come right through the roof and even trashed the interior.

RE: Vert vs. Coupe
What? If a vert rolls, you're done. The only advantage to having a vert when it comes to rolling is like you said, the center of gravity. However, if the vert does roll...the windsheild will buckle, and you're head will become part of the pavement.

He hydroplained, driving too fast in the rain. The car rolled over several times. He also walked away with just bruises and cuts. Very lucky.
