Default Help out a fellow stanger

My mother is the owner of a 2006 GT vert. She has been told that they can get some massive HP improvements from a chip. Can anyone back this up, and if so, what kinda increases could be expected????

First of all, who's "they" and what "chip" are they talking about? The two best handheld tuners for our cars are the SCT Xcal 2 and the Predator. By themselves you can probably expect 8-15 rwhp increase. With a CAI like C&L, JLT, and others, with the tuner, you can expect 20-30 rwhp increase. You can either get tunes through the internet or find a reputable tuner in your area.

I am new to the ehhh, non-pushrod scene, so I appologize for my ignorance on this topic. It was my sisters, roommates boyfriend(Reputable source I am sure) and she is all over the topic now. A CAI is probibly going to happen soon, so what all would be involved in getting a tuner and the like, if you don't mind explaining it to me like I am a child that would probibly help.

http://www.brenspeed.com/mustang_2005/airkittuner.html

above is a link to some info on some good CAI and Handheld tuner packages, there are others, i just have this book marked. On the 05+ mustangs, if you add a CAI without a turn the engine will run lean. a ton of people run a ton of different combo's. Other then keeping your car from running lean, what i like about the tuner packages is you can get like 3 tunes, so if its during the week you can run a 89 tune, then if you want to go to the track on the weekend...fill up with 92 or whatever you have in your area, and put in the 92 tune (or whatever) and your set for some fun at the track.

Whenever someone mentions a "chip", they are referring to something like this:

There are much cheaper ones out there too, this was the first that popped up in Google.
My friend up in Portland has one for his 2005 v6, and says he noticed gains, but I'm still skeptical.
Even if true, it doesn't allow for modding.
