RE: noob tuning questions
If you by additional parts from Brenspeed he will tune it absolutely free.
ORIGINAL: androdz
Brenspeed doesn't update your tunes for free remember that. I would call justin as it is always better to have a local tuner to help you out with install and questions. Call Justin he will give you a good price on the sct. Tell him Andrew from Puerto Rico sent you.

RE: noob tuning questions
There isnt a whole lot of mods that would need an update that you could buy from him.
For LTs I bought from him he says no update is needed. CMDPs require a tune but he doesnt sell FRPPs and who is going to pay 300$ for the non ford ones. UDPs dont require a tune of course. Gears is a simple tune change that doesnt require a new one.
Cams would but I would not install them without a dyno tune.
I might not be thinking about all of them but after the CAI and tune, I cant think if a single mod that he would update for free.

RE: noob tuning questions
Something else that people tend to overlook. When you buy your tuner from Brenspeed (or whereever) you get three different tunes.
You could use these tunes to plan for your future mods.
For example, suppose you bought the tuner and CAI at the same time. But, in the future you were thinking about CMCP delete.
You could get a 93 octane CAI tune to run right away, a 93 CAI+CMCP tune for whenever you get the CMCP plates, and a 3rd tune for yet ANOTHER mod down the road.
This makes a heck of a lot more sense than the traditional setup of "87, 89, and 93 octane" tunes. I mean, that is what I got when I first bought my tuner--but what a mistake that was. I used the 93 tune and never looked back. What the heck is the point of having the others? And even if you are the kind of person who wants to keep a lower-octane tune around for some reason, you surely don't need the middle one (89).

RE: noob tuning questions
Dyno tune with a "good" tuner is the way to go.
As far as CAIs, my tuner said that JLT is the one he's seen the best results with, so that's what I bought. He tests new products for MMFF magazine all the time. Some CAI can actually loose hp. Whatever you do, don't just believe the claims on any manufacture's web site. If you do, you'll end up believing that this-or-that window sticker can actuall add 10 hp =)

RE: noob tuning questions
For somebody getting started right out of the gate, the proven internet tuners are a great way to go for a CAI and tune. Brenspeed's tune is pretty safe and will give a good seat of the pants kick. My wideband tests show a 12.8 WOT A/F ratio which hits the bullseye.
If I knew there was a good SCT tuner in my area, I'd still consider getting a true custom tune to pick up a few more horses but Brents tune is plenty good for now.

RE: noob tuning questions
Justin will set you up, just call him with what you have in mind and he will talk you thru. I tried getting 2 diff tunes @ 93 octane but I was told no that It had to be the same tune with the same mods. Remember he prob only adjusts timing on the tune to vary between 87-93 oct. I still dont understand why they have to "build" you a brand new tune, I mean if they tune a car with the same mods shouldn't the tune be a copy/paste? Other than changing the cpu code and serial# on the tuner??
