Will 275's fit on stock wheel

RE: Will 275's fit on stock wheel
if you have 17x8 stock wheels, the only tire that might work is the 275/50/17 but I think it needs at least an 8.5-9 in wide rim but it will probably ride, look, and wear poorly.
if you have 18x8.5 stock wheels I still think the 275/40/18 need a 9 in wide rim at a minimum because of the lower profile.
go onto tirerack.com and look at the specs for those size tires and look for spec rim width

I have 275-50-17 on my Ford 17x8 Bullitt Wheels and have no problems at all.

RE: Will 275's fit on stock wheel
"I am also going with the 275/50/17 before long and was looking at the nitto 450 ...255/50/17 up front and 275/50/17 on the rear with aftermarket bullits in 8" ...If it looks strange then I will get some 9" for the rear but I see no problems with running the 8s ....Check nitto website .. The rear wheels on 05 retro's ride I think look ...well retro ...I like the look of the taller ...wider tire ( old skool ) and with the roush rear springs I think it will be just purdy

RE: Will 275's fit on stock wheel
I know a guy running 275/40/17 on his 17X8s and his wheels looks fine and safe. But this is an 03? GT. Is there a diff between S197 and New edge 17X8 bullitt wheels? 275/40/17 is the size I really want in the rear but if is doesn't wort it doesn't work[>:]At least not on stock wheels.

I'm running 255/50/17's all around on the stock rims and they are very close to being even with the outside of the fender.
In my opinion you dont want the ties to come out of the wheel well.........for show. I wouldnt go any wider than 265/50/17 on the tires. These tires should put them dead even with the fender, they might stick out just a tad........donno.
Using the BFG GForce T/A KDWS tires really improves the handling (a good all season tire). They are a square looking tire, as compared the the stock tires that look rounded. I guess you could say the BFG's look like slicks, thats how square looking they are.
In any case pay attention to the "Tread Wear" number on the tire you buy. The BFG's are rated at "400" which means the rubber is very hard and they really suck at the track. They will last a long time though.
The lower the number in "Tread Wear" the softer the tread and the better traction you will get at the strip. If thats your goal.

I would'nt buy a tire based on its treadwear rating.
Each manufactor sets their own, and can only be compared to that compaines other tires.
What I mean is a BFG 400 rated tire is not equal to a goodyear 400 rated tire.
But a BFG 400 rated tire can be compared to other BFGs, and Goodyears compared to only other Goodyear tires

RE: Will 275's fit on stock wheel
Remember guys the higher the treadwear the less 1/4 mile traction they will give you. Also 275's on the stock rim is ok but it is really pushing it. It creates a rather big bulge in the tire sidewall. I wouldn't go autocrossing with the 275's for fear that a tires will just unhook.
