Default another gear question

I have a 05 gt 5 speed and I want to install gears next year. The car won't be drivin all too much cause I'm hopin to get my National goin next year. What would be a good gear to get, I hear lots about the 4.10's, and a little about the 4.30's. How do each perform in 5th gear at high speeds. I like the 3.55's for passing people right now, but they feel pretty poor right outta the hole. I will be getting a tune and cai. I also will most likely be gettin headers as well. If anyone has any good recommendations on those other performance items, please let me know. Oh, and I will most likly be gettin some kinda street legal drag tire next year as well, so traction shouldn't be that big of a deal, thanks!

with the CAI and tune, the lag will be gone out of the hole, so right there, you will be impressed. With the 5 speed tanny, People have told me to go withe 4.30's. Most everyone I know with an 05+ have 4.10's. It depends on what you would like to do in the future. If you plan on a supercharger, Kenne Bell suggests 3.73's. for the "Best 1/4 Mile gear" Here is a link for that info.

I won't be supercharging or turboing this car, so that won't be an issue. I just want a fun street car to play around with, the National will be my race car.

Ok I have some questions too. I don't want to start a new thread so ill ask here.

I have an 06 GT 5 Spd.

These questions are for 4.30's

Will my car just completely die out after like 110?

Will my top Speed change at all?

I don't really care about mpg that much, because i don't drive a lot...

What should I go with... The only places I drive to are all within 25 miles. I might drive on the highway 1-2 times a month.

So should I go 4.10's or 4.30's and why.

again, sorry for hijacking your thread. i just don't want to start a new one and get flamed because one was just started. :\

No, your 4th gear will end about 110, you just need to shift to 5th and you can go faster.
You don't drive a lot? Isn't that your DD?

but how much/if faster will a mustang with stock gears be then one with 4.30's from 100-130mph?

yeah its my DD but i only drive like 4 miles to school. then to friends and stuff on weekends but they all live close...if i go anywhere far i just take my dads truck to keep the miles low on my car...

i drive mine on the highway a bit, but i usually don't speed. the biggest thing for me is the difference in top end between the 4.30's and 4.10's. do the 4.10's pull in 5th gear or do they die out like the 3.55's.

Default RE: another gear question

I have found that with the 4.10s, passing other cars in 5th gear has become pretty easy. By that I mean I don't feel the need to downshift into 4th to pass, and this is for two reasons.

The first is because of the additional torque multiplication of the 4.10s over 3.55s.

The second reason is due to the higher rpms you are running in 5th gear. Eventhough you are running about 350 or so RPM higher with 4.10s than 3.55s at 65 mph you are also about 350 rpm farther up in the power band. Therefore the engine is making a little extra power at that point too.
