best drag radials?
im looking to buy some new tires. i don't want all out drag tires; just some nice, fairly-priced (nothing ridiculous) drag radials for the rear; big meaty tires that will hook like mad but not wear out in 5,000 miles. also, suggestions on grippy front tires to go with this combo.
some questions: will this kind of tire make smoke quickly when i spin 'em, and leave nice thick black marks without having to stand and burn 'em for like 15 seconds?
what should i know about getting these tires?
am i gonna destroy my clutch from launching and shifting hard every once in a while with these?
i want to have an all around grippy setup that will make the car handle really well, not worried too much about inclement conditions (live in FL), but i want DR's on the back. is this possible?
my parents are going to treat me to this set of tires. are they gonna catch on?

if you want to drive around on them all the time, i suggest the BFGoodwrench KDW's. . . don't wear as fast as strickly track DR's, but get good all around traction, without sacrificing handling. . .
if you want DR's just for the track. . . nothing hooks better than Mickey Thompson ET Streets. . .nothing

Amen to the E.T. Streets. They hook up so well at the track. I ran BFG on my 02 and they also work really well. Just make sure to clean off the nice tire pieces from the rear bumper and your parents shouldn't suspect a thing. Just be safe on the streets.

M&H makes a nice tire for the back is a 275/50/17 they hook really good. It is a tall tire, 28" It will fill all the gap beteween the fender and the tire.

RE: best drag radials?
If you want a daily driver Drag Radial then go with the Nitto 555R. These tires will not hook as well as track only D/R’s like Hoosier and M/T’s but they will last much longer on a daily driver and still give you the traction you are looking for. Get the Nitto 555 for the fronts and you will be set. The only other D/R you should consider, if you want more traction, is the BFG D/R’s. These won’t wear as well as the Nitto but will hook better. If you go with the BFG then get the BFG KDW2 for the fronts. Earl
