S/C'd longevity

say i got a supercharger( any reputable s/c: kb, vortech, whipple, roush, saleen) and ran 5 psi (or lower, i dont need more than 400hp) does anyone have a ballpark of how many miles it would last me? im considering getting a blower but would not want to risk having to rebuild or anything like that because this is an everyday car and is relatively new (got it used 3 months ago 06 gt 13k miles)

thinking about the jdm package: http://www.teamjdm.com/shop/product_...roducts_id=212

under 450 HP at the flywheel with a good tune, you will not have any other problems caused by it, notice the "with a good tune" part

Many people are running 450 rwhp with a GOOD tune, this is the key make sure you get it installed and tuned by a a tuner that has done the 05 and up Stang's. You will not have a problem, I was a little leary myself but after doing some research I'm going with the Paxton form Brenspeed.com . looking at 440 rwhp.

Manhatten Beach is a neat town, was there a few years back.

The Roush S/C is the only one that won't void your warranty, when installed at a Ford/Roush Dealer. It's also the only one that is 50 states approved.

is hp at the flywheel the same as hp at the crank or what its dyno'd at? is that the same measurement as what my car is advertised at(300 hp). thats different than what it actually put out at the wheels, which is the rwhp?

RE: S/C'd longevity

300 to the fly, around 270 to the wheels

commen sence amoung mustang people is if you push more then 450 HP on a stock 4.6 you are asking for trouble, 500 and you are begging for it

I'm think about getting that same kit. I'll probably get it dynoed to check the air/fuel just to be safe.

The biggest killer of engines is heat - not ambient air temperature - but heat to specific parts of the rotating assembly such as the crank, connecting rods and pistons. The cause of that heat is over-revving (and it only takes a couple of seconds of that). At 5psi your motor should last a long, long time. Get a good tune, wide band a/f gauge and shift light set to reasonable RPMs and you shouldn't have any major issues.

That isn't true - the Saleen is approved at "stock" boost as well...

Some of the others are "pending", but the Saleen already is and comes with a nice sticker to clutter up your hood and make emissions people happy...
