I have the dynatech headers with highflow cats along with stock mufflers...sounds great to me!

While I do agree that Shorty Headers will only gain you around 5HP Peak at the rear wheels.I do not agree that they are a waste of money. What you will gain by going with the Shorties is around 15-20 Ft. Lbs. Of Torque @ the rear wheels, and we all know TQ is what gets you going and HP is what keeps you going so there is a big upside to Shorty headers.

Richard
That is the first I have heard about shorty headers adding that much torque, can anyone else confirm this?

Everyoneelse I have ever heard has said they are a waste of money, but 15-20 ft lbs sounds pretty good if it means I can stay emissions legal and keep my current midpipe.
Exactly and this is something that gets overlooked by lots of people. I have read about this in several mags. And most of the dyno results seem to be very consistent with the TQ numbers but like i said they do only show about a 5HP improvement.

This is the first that I have seen/heard of this as well. Can you please post a link to one of the articles in question or a dyno chart of an indipendant test?

Well i know my current Mustangs Monthly has an article in it and i have also seen it in MM&FF along with 5.0. Let me try and save the article into a file and I will see if i can post it large enough to read with the dyno chart.

You'll have to upload the file. That site you hosted it on does not allow hotlinking and requires an account for other people to view your images.

Really? So your saying that you do not see the picture that i see on page 1? I have never ran into that problem before. I will load it somewhere else. Here try this one.

No, earlier it was showing a red X. It worked this secondtime though. Thanks.

That test is pretty intersting. This is the first test that I have seen which demonstrates asignificant benefit to the shorties. Unfortunatley, this testcontradicts the earlier one shown in 5.0 Mustang magazine.

Anyway, this test does show a gain of 10.1 HP and 17.6 ft-lb at 3000 RPM. That's not bad at all. This would not be a bad mod for the budget concious person interested in street performance. 3000 RPM is a very useable spot for the gains to be had.

However, I still belive that longtubes are a better choice:

First of all, the installation labor is the same for either one. 6 hours at $70/hour is $420.

And the parts prices arenot that far apart, if you compare comporable quality. For example, the BBK headers are ceramic coated mild steel and they cost about $375. Ceramic coated longtubes are available fromBBK for $480.

You can have shorties for a total of about $800, or longtubes for about $900. That's about $100 more, for a significantly higher gain in performance....not to mention the LT's dont COST you HP at the upper RPM range: Note that the BBK shorties tested here resulted in an HP LOSS compared to stock exhaust above 5000 RPMs.

I agree 100% that the Longtubes are a better choice, but in States such as California which is where i live Shorties are the way to go. So in States that have Emission testing shorties are the answer.
