I like the sound and to me that's worth the 300 and odd something dollars. The stock mustang is just too quiet. I think it's quieter than the 2004 mustang gts'.

I think itwas 5.0 Magazine that did a muffler shootout about a year ago and the aftermarket mufflers gained 2-3 "peak" hp at most. Interestingly, the OEM muffler still had the highest average horsepower and torque accross the rpm range.

Note, that was on a stock or near stock N/A Mustang GT.

axle backs will not create a noticeable horsepower increase if any at all. All mufflers will do is create a backpressure delivering the sound you want. H pipes for deep tone, X-pipe for raspy tone. Its all about what you want your car to sound like. If you want power out of your exhaust you will have to add long tubes. Another thing you can do is change the axle over pipes. The stock pipes are bent causing a loss of about 5hrspwr. I wish I had someone to tell me this I wouldn't be on my 3rd exhaust set up!

I call BS on that part. No way the slight smash looses HP at anywhere near stock HP levels. The pipe is just made lightly oval. Over axle pipes are a complete waist of cash.

but on some web sites corsa and borla are actually claiming to make 7-10% increase in HP. one site even claimed 13 HP. your thoughts...
Well, hell, if they say so, it's gotta ba true...lets see...7-10% on 300hp...that would be 21-30 hp, just bolting on a muffler. Sounds like that 13 hp increase is a little off the pace. LOL.[&:][&:] So that means a set of precision mandrel bent over-axle pipes, and some Borla's could give you 25 more HP.Man, that'scool!!!

you might be right they might be a waste of cash, but it seems to me that it would restrict the flow, but hey I never claimed to know everything. If you have any other tips on gaining horses, I'm always open to suggestions!

fwiw, Horsepower TV got 11more hp from the Roush axle-backs on their dyno on a car with a Roush blower.

The stock GT pipes are already mandrel bent, meaning the inside diameter is constant, to maximize the exhaust flow, and minimize back pressure.
