Default Do axle-backs really add HP?

all this time i've been thinking that with the new mustang's, changing the mufflers would make no difference in power. maybe pick up 1 HP. but on some web sites corsa and borla are actually claiming to make 7-10% increase in HP. one site even claimed 13 HP. your thoughts...

13hp? I highly doubt that. if you want more hp, you don't go with axle backs.....

Now some people say that you may actually lose hp...some say with the slp lm's you lose up to 4-7....but i dont think thats right. there was a big thread a while back on that subject...

Well, on SOME cars an HP gain from Axle-backs does happen, so perhaps these sites are quoting generic information. However, on the 05+ Mustang there is no real power to be had. Like you said, MAYBE +1 HP, but I wouldn't count on it.

With JUST mufflers alone (ie axlebacks) you will probably get about 2-3 hp or so. The websites that claim 13hp etc probably have axlebacks coupled with a midpipe or have been tuned etc.

With stock exhaust thebottle neck isnot the mufflers. However, at some point it might become the limiting factor. Maybe with LTs OR mid pipe? I honestly dont know at what point it would become the limiting factor. I have never seen a dyno that shows a before and after comparison on a car with full bolt ons or a FI car. There is no way a stock muffler can flow equal to a stinger.

There is no way they lose HP. It makes no damn sense. By the logic that backpresure is a good thing, I must be loosing at least 25hp with my LTs and HF CATS.
