Default Still a mystery with my car

One of my cylinders was missing a while back and popping like popcorn out my passenger side exhaust only under hard acceleration with high boost. I purchased the Ford Racing plugs one heat range colder and it cleared up. Now it started doing it again. So, I checked all the spark plugs and 2 of them were lose and you could tell by the black streak on the side of the plug that it was blowing by the plug. I made sure they were all tightened down and took it for a ride. It runsALOT better, but not quite all the way gone yet. I don't know what else to check or think.

When you got the new spark plugs did you gap them properly before installing?

That is a very likely cause for your problem them!

Call up Saleen and find out what the proper gap should be. Then grab one of these:

You will also need a wire-type gap gage. Traditional gapping tools don't work on these spark plugs.

Gap your plugs to the proper spec, put a little anti-sieze on the threads and put them back. I'll bet your problem will go away.

Thanx. Yeah, I was suppose to gap them to .035, but I thought they would be OK since they weren't far off from it. I think they are .040 or .045 shipped. I quess I'll just have to go through the pain of gapping them.

Normally plug gap isn't all that important, but when you're running forced induction it is.

As soon as you mentioned popping and high boost it became clear! In fact, how much boost are you running? If you are running beyond normal street supercharger levels, you might need a stronger ignition. Spark blowout does happen on these cars with FI.

I was wondering what the torque specs are on these plugs. I've just been been putting them in snug, because I don't have a torque wrench. If I remember right it's 9 inch lbs.
