You guys have very understanding wives. My future wife always bitches when I push the throttle even a tiny bit...let alone drag racing evo's.

I've driven stock Evo 7's and they've got horrible turbo lag. Understandable that if he was low in the power band that you smoked him. I also owned an STI for a while and I'm pretty sure that with some basic mods a 197 can smoke a stocker. The problem comes when the Evo/STI starts modding...the 2.5l boxer engine can pump out 400-450 to the wheels (all of them) without too much modification...but I suppose that's what superchargers are for...hey, they've got a power adder...how about us?

WOW! Alot of replies to this one...
Thats why I said surprising!!
I think it was an older EVO, possibly off a used car lot, which explains the paper licence plates.
The driver wasjust a kid, he probably knew the stereo better than the tach...
I do think he was trying, though...we were going pretty fast, and I was loosing him slightly, besides, the Mustang is in it's element in the lower gears because the auto's gear ratios are reeeeeely close, it looses less than 900rpm between 2nd and 3rd, a real no-brainer for me, but I did have the throttle floored...
I said that it was probably an early EVO, which I have driven, and the one I drove wascursed with boost-lag after shifting gears, and a weaker top end than the much faster late EVO, which I have also driven (used car mechanic).
Now as far as convertibles being slower than coupes, Car & Driver claimed that the convertible GT they tested was actually faster than the GT coupe they tested!
(please don't get me into a manual vs auto debate, this is my wife's car!)
This auto does run good, getting better as it breaks in!!
Who said I got lucky? I'll agree to that...

Hey, at the end of the day all that matters is that you flew home and the other guy got to ride the parachute down. Splash one, good kill, retrograde and RTB.

Nice kill. From a roll, they pull about the same when the EVO is in it's boost, but you probably got him while he was lagging. V8 instant torque vs turbo lag. They are very respectable though, especially when modded. I raced my friends EVO all summer at work when I first got mine. I have a fair amount of experienceracing the EVO. None with the STI though[&:].
