Default does cold weather change performance?

I live in the Chicagoland area and it has been pretty cold the last week or so. I noticed that my car has been more sluggish. Does cold tems in the 20's change any performance. It just seems like that throttle lag is really kicking in now. Thanks

I think so, but the opposite of what you are saying. I live in FL and when it gets in the 50's or 60's (as low as it gets LOL) my throttle response goes up. But may when its too cold it gets worse [:-], I dunno i've never taken my car that far north.

It will definitely be more sluggish at colder temperatures before your engine heats up, but once it does you will have a performance increase. Colder air is more dense which means you get more air to your engine which means it expands more and yields more hp. The colder the air the better the performance, even if it is 20 degrees outside.

I suggest letting your engine heat all the way up before stepping on it.

You should have a noticeable increase in performance. Just let your car warm up for a good 10-15 minutes. If it were me at those temps I would let mine warm up for at least a 1/2 hour.

when you're engine warms up and is at operating temperature, it's going to run like a scalded dog in cold weather b/c of how much colder the air is being rammed into the engine. congrats, but watch out for ice!

I live in North Chicago and my cars loves this weather! Like everyone is saying, colder air is more dense=more power. Um that's why people at the drags are cooling their intakes between runs. To cool the intake enough to lower the temps of the incoming air and boost power.

Just a little rib, but maybe your car feels sluggish because you are breaking the tires loose and not moving, ha ha. The lower the temps the worse the traction.
