RE: quick question about factory warranty!
Nothing voids your warranty, persay. Unless you break apart the engine, which is like a "open this seal and warranty is voided"
First off, whenever you start bothering with something... It's prone to break eventually. If you're not willing to deal with that, don't mod your vehicle. With that being said, many of us have done small mods like intake/tune, pulleys, and so forth with zero issues. Long term effect? Unknown.
Law states that the dealership has to prove that your aftermarket modification caused the problem.

Menace is right. The laws state that an aftermarket part has to be the direct cause of a failure in order for them to refuse warranty service. So, if you put the shifter on your car and say that you shifted it too hard and broke a synchro ring in the transmission and you took it to the dealer for repair, then yes they would have the right to refuse warranty repair. Because the shifter was changed they could do this. But, remember the shifter doesn't effect the entire warranty of you car.

I tend to do stuff under warranty unless its abviously caused by a mod. Like this time someone came in complaining about a sticking throttle with an aftermarket BBk throttle body on it. Nothing I could do there.

RE: quick question about factory warranty!
The Magnussen Moss act of 1978 states that a dealer must prove 100% without a doubt that the aftermarket part caused the malfuntion of the OE part before a warranty claim can be denied. Does this happen, usually no. A conservative dealer will usually decline a claim when they see the aftermarket accessory on the vehicle before they explore the problem. They figure you areignurant of the laws and side with their decision...
