Auto and 3.73s
I know these topics have been made over and over...and over. But i truley need to make my own, and ask some Q's. Ive been searching throughout the forum about gears, and it seems it would be best for me to go with 3.73s. I drive the streets way more than im driving highways.
I hear alot of people talking about the RPMs differing with new gears. I have 285s in the back, would it effect me much? Plus i eventually plan to go s/c...so i would like to stick to 3.73s
What do you guys think? 3.73s the way to go?[:-]Sorry about making another one of these topics, i know they can be annoying[:@]
What do you guys think I'll be running with my mods now, 3.73s, andLT headers?

RE: Auto and 3.73s
285's is the width of your tire so that really wouldn't come into the equation.285 (width) 35 (milimetersof side wall) 18(wheel diameter) I'm pretty sure the auto's came with a 3.30 rearend. If you went with 3.73's you would have about a 12% increase in rpms, 4.10's about a 20% increase. I just went with 4.10 from a 3.55 and love the response/results. I haven't gone a very long trip yet but it seems I lost 1 mpg (on a short trip). Oh well. The change in gearing feels like I gained 50 hp. I went from a 2.82 to a 3.31 with my 01 GT and noticed a big difference. From what most everyone have said the FRPP's are the ones to go with. But like everything else, everyone has their own opinions.
My gear swap was covered under warrunty. There is a TSB for the rear end on the S197's. They change out the clutch pack and the ring and pinion. So...look into it and see waht your dealership will do for you. Any free gears are better than purchased.

RE: Auto and 3.73s
yea, haha i just know that there is a huge amount of posts on this topic, and just thought of it being an annoyance, but i guess your right...if you've got a Q ask it!
O to the first post the width is 285/40/18...so i dont know if the equation changs there or not?
Plus im a newb with gears. So when somebody says my RPMs are going to change after gears...I really don't know what the affects are going to be??? MPG maybe?

RE: Auto and 3.73s
I have recently had 4.30's installed on mine. I talked with Justin Burcham of JPC during the swap and he told me at 75mph I would be revving about 400rpm higher, 4.10's about 250rpm higher at 75mph. Hope this helps.

RE: Auto and 3.73s
4.10s will knock about half a second off your quartert mile time
what kind of blower? with those tires out back and a cetrifical blower (vortech or procharger) 4.10s are freaking awsome! cant help you for a KB i dont have experience with them, maybe get the blower first and see how the stock gears are
