Yeah you have me lost....are you just wanting to rev the engine while not moving. If that is the case then leave the thing in park, no need to shift to neutral. If you are cruising then go ahead and slip it in park and see what happens...

I've not had any problems getting rubber when I want. I've also not had any problems not getting rubber when I want. My car responds really well even with Traction Control on. I can turn it off an I can lay 20 feet of rubber (did it once to impress my 15 year old). Granted, the car doesn't break loose as easy as my 87 did. That car was a burn out king, I only got 10K miles on my tires though.
Key is to get the tires loose first then pound it to the ground. You don't want to be flooring it right off the bat, the traction control takes over.

I'm all stock manual. I've done a few decent burnouts with no problems, just gotta spin up the engine a bit. Even forgot to turn TCS off one day and still got quite a fishtail out of the whole thing. To the guy who mentioned FWD cars are easier to spin, well of course they are! When you punch the gas in a FWD the front of the car is lifting up, whereas our cars are clamping down on the rear wheels
