Default High Power Alternator

Hiya,

Anyone know of any good high power alternators for our stangs? I'm going to be pushing roughly 2400 watts through my sound system soon, and I have a dual battery setup (80AMP AGM Battery) to alleviate the load on the main cranking battery. I'm going to install a battery isolator/regulator to charge the second battery.

I guess my question is, do you think I need a new alternator? What is the stock one rated at?

I have no idea what the rating of the stock alternator is.

Based on previous threads on this board, I don't think anyone makes a high-output alternator yet. But, you should be able to find an alterator "overdrive" pulley. This is the opposite of an underdrive pulley. It makes the alternator spin faster, for more output.

Another option is to take a stock alternator to an alternator shop and see if they can rewind it for you to give a higher output.

The funny thing is I have UDP.[:@] How much do you think it would cost to get it rewound? That sounds better then a new one.

I don't know what the rewind cost might be.I just remember a lot of the big stereo guys would do that.

Your first order of business is to get rid of the UDP. UDP + High output alternator = Stock alternator (ish). The new alternator is not going to work properly with UDPs.

The stock one is good for 135 amps. I had to buy one already and they aren't cheap. It should have plenty of power for you.
